Avoiding Temptation & When You Can't... Then What?

When it is hotter than balls you need to drink, drink, drink -- I am referring to water here! Also, you’re going to want to eat colder foods, like ice cream or frozen yogurt! I love some good ice cream or frozen yogurt.

And folks it is OKAY to have a treat every once in awhile. I went to Tutti Frutti {frozen yogurt} with a of couple friends. It was 9:00 pm and a last minute deal but we were HOT, HUNGRY, and dang it just in the MOOD! So, as soon as someone said, “we should go to Tutti Frutti” we were in the car within minutes.

I got chocolate and vanilla with some raspberries and then a little candy. I NEVER eat candy anymore so it definitely got to me later while I was lying in bed. But it was soo worth it : )

Here’s a cute little picture:

My friends Heather and Lauren

How do you avoid it?
  • Tell yourself you’ve got this.
  • Tell someone around you that you are trying to work hard at a goal and you need his or her support. They almost ALWAYS will help you and want to be there for you. If not? Well, personally I would rethink the friendship {that’s just me}.
  • Workout early in the day, this way you’ll want to stay on track with your food.
  • Don’t bring your wallet!!! You don’t want to miss out on events with your friends, so still tag along, and just leave your money at home.
  • If you do have money on you say “I’m not getting anything tonight” while you’re in the car. This will give everyone a heads up not to bother you on what you’re getting.
  • There will always be that one person who says “c’mon just get something” {I’m guilty for this : ( } or “really, why does this one burger even matter?”….. Just smile politely, DON’T give in.
      You’ve got this!

And if you don’t take any of that advice…

When you do want to go out always go for a small. Sometimes this is hard, I mean like who goes to Dairy Queen and gets a mini. Ugh, not me; however, if you are trying to cut back then a mini is going to satisfy your want for this treat in fewer calories than a medium. Go for something light, ice cream in a cup vs. a malt/blizzard.

Workout! We all know you cannot outwork a bad diet. I’ve tried. I have eaten really bad and then worked out for two hours. It doesn’t work; however, just going to the gym for one hour daily will likely make you rethink your decision to eat bad foods. You also are going to be needing more calories in your diet if you burn calories but I am not saying to go eat a cookie with 400 calories then workout.

Drink water! Water will help you flush this bad food through you.

It’s ok to feel a little bad and regret it. But don’t punish yourself over it. Tomorrow is a new day.

Last night I was on my own for dinner because I didn’t get home until 7:00 ish and everyone had already eaten. I have no problem at all coming up with a meal in my room… Last night I had an AMAZING dinner.

1 C. Greek Yogurt
¼ C. Organic Oatmeal
1 Scoop Isagenix Protein Powder
1/8 C. Rasepberries
1 T. Honey

This was over 44 grams of protein!!!!!! In one meal. WOWZA. (For some people this might be too much, but for me it is perfect because I need a higher amount of protein due to exercising so much. It was very filling)

First Day Of School

Today I started my sophomore year at Concordia in Moorhead, MN. Holy buckets, I feel like yesterday I was holding my keys taking the ‘first day picture’ of my senior year of High School. Time flies!

Here's a little 'Throwback Thursday'

Today (August 2013)

Senior Year (September 2011)
BOY! WHAT A DIFFERENCE!
Look at those chubby checks and big legs.
New hair too!
Oh and it must have been freezing that day... I don't know why I would be wearing a coat.

I love everything about college minus the Internet. It keeps going in and out, which is driving me cray cray. Hence the lack of posting! There was a glitch earlier in the week that is apparently now fixed so hopefully it works now.

Tomorrow I am going to post how to avoid temptations when it is 8,000 degrees and when you can’t avoid it how to treat yourself in moderation. Next week is going to be LOTS of pictures of what I am eating in my dorm room and also what not to keep in a dorm room.

Today I had a little oatmeal with protein powder and raspberries. YUMMY.
I made the oatmeal in the microwave with the protein powder, next time I would add the protein powder after when I add the raspberries.
This is a FABULOUS breakfast. Great protein that will keep you full and satisfy you.

Organic Trader Joe's oatmeal, organic raspberries
grown in my garden at home and 1 scoop of
IsaPro protein powder (100 calories/18 g of protein)

Happy Thursday!!

Holy Balls. It's HOT.

Yesterday (Sunday) I moved into my dorm room at college (Concordia) to start my sophomore year off with my best friend Lauren. We had been anxiously awaiting this day for sometime and it had finally come.

Leading up to the day I was checking the weather. Which caused me to have a mini heart attack. Highs of 97 degrees in Moorhead. SAY WHAT!

Bring on the sweat baby.

Well funny story, I was driving up and my AC in my car was a little too cold so I turned the heat on. For the love, I wish I could yank the AC out of my car today and put it into my dorm room.

So move in day went pretty well, we got through with little to no fighting which is good because when five people are hot, hungry and trying to give their opinions you never know what can happen.

Yes, I sweat the whole day. Yes, I was a hot mess. Yes, I was sticky. Yes, I was uncomfortable. Yes, I was definitely scaring away the boys.

But how couldn’t I??? I literally had sweat dripping from my face. Dear Lord help me. (And I have ZERO pictures from move in day because I was not about to take a picture)

Anyway, classes don’t start until Thursday. So today we wanted to get the heck out of the dorm rooms so we worked out (apparently the air was broken, see picture below), went to the mall, found job applications for Lauren, bummed around, you know just took an easy in places with AIR CONDITIONING!

SO HOT. I could only handle 30 minutes.
But it looked like I worked out for 5 hours.
Overall, I love my room. I love my roommate. I love my college friends (HS too :)). I love life. But I am DAMN grateful for the air conditioning in my house back at home.

Dorm Room Pictures:

This is a picture from the day before I left for college. It will probably be the best picture you're going to get of my new hair for another month.

Cheers to the heat baby!

Skinny Pizza

I have shared a gluten free pizza recipe that is made from cauliflower and eggs. Yes, it was good but it takes about 55 minutes to make and to be honest sometimes you don’t have 55 minutes to make a meal. So the recipe that I am going to share today taste like pizza, is enough for one serving and is QUICK.

Life always seems to be about quick. People want to eat a quick meal, people want to do a quick workout and burn 1000 calories, people want to get to their ending location in a car quick, people want to clean their house quick, everyone is about quick, quick, quick.

Honestly, I am too. If I had 1 hour before every meal I am sure my meals would be better but when you live a busy life you need to be prepared so you don’t end up in the McDonald’s drive through.

So that’s when I did a little thinking of how to utilize the ingredients I had in my house to make enough for ONE serving only.

Skinny Pizza:
1 whole bagel thin (2 sides)
2 T pizza sauce {one T on each side} (watch the ingredients! Sometimes they will add HFCS-not good!)
4 T mozzarella cheese {two T on each side}
seasoning- I used Italian

Toast the bagel thins. Spread on sauce and sprinkle cheese. If you want seasoning on the pizza add before you put it in the microwave. Put pizza in microwave for about 25 seconds. DONE. Eat it up!

{Ingredients I Used}

you can get these 100% whole wheat bagel thins
at any grocery store. They are as tasty as a bagel
with only 110 calories
Yummy pizza sauce from Trader Joe's.
For 1/4 cup it is 30 calories.
Trader Joe's mozzarella cheese. Tastes extremely
fresh. I believe 1/4 cup is 80 calories
Serves one person

SIMPLE & FUN. What my life is all about.

P.S. I got my hair done last night… Changed it up! Got it shorter. Thanks to my awesome stylist Beth at Mode Salon, WBL!
