Super Simple Spaghetti Squash

I was a spaghetti squash virgin until this past week. Everyone has said only good things about spaghetti squash but I was too scared to try it! Well now that I've made it I know it is now going to be a regular. So delicious.

I kept my first attempt at cooking spaghetti squash super simple.

Spaghetti Squash:

1.     Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

2.     Take the squash and cut in half.

3.     Spoon out the ‘insides’. Just like you would when carving pumpkins!

4.     Spray a cookie sheet or place some oil on it and lay the squash face down.

5.     Stab some holes with a knife or fork.

6.     Cook for 50 minutes.

7.     When it comes out take a fork to squash forming ‘spaghetti’.

I kept the sauce simple and from Trader Joes. I did add some kale/spinach/onions to the sauce along with ground turkey meat.

This is for sure a keeper!! Enjoy.

W.O.W {#14}

I am falling back in love with working out after we took a little break on our relationship it the end of 2013… I love going to boot camp because I get worked hard. When I am not doing boot camp I am usually training for my half marathon that’s in March; however, lately I have fallen in love with sprints on the treadmill!

So for Workout Wednesday we shall do some sprints!

45 minutes of sprints!
5 minute light jog – 5 speed
5 minute sprints – 7.5 speed, 20 on 10 off
5 minute light jog – 4.7 speed
5 minute sprints – 8 speed, 20 on 10 off
5 minute fast walk – 4.5 speed
5 minute sprints - 8.5 speed, 15 on 10 off
5 minute walk – 4.3 speed
5 minute sprints – 9 speed, 10 on 10 off
5 minute SLOW recovery – 3.5 speed

This is a great workout. I was drenched when I was done and I burned a shiz ton of calories.

Tips:
Don’t change your speed when you’re doing the sprints, simply jump on the sides of the treadmill
Have H2O ready for your time you’re off during your sprints
Try to avoid holding onto the treadmill or putting your body over the treadmill for  support. I am the Queen of this, and it is SOOO bad for you. During the sprints and light jogs if it is too much simply slow down to a pace that works for you
If you can feel your heart rate dropping on the recovery jogs or walks set your incline higher

If you do this and don’t feel it let me know! You should be dead near the end. :)

I will leave you with this:

Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Ice Cream + Some Birthday Lovin'

A special HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my sister, Bria. She is not only an amazing sister, but best friend too. She blogs every so often, a little different from my blog. I try to put together cute outfits and share them with you all – well she successfully puts together cute outfits. Hands down she has the best fashion out of anyone I know personally, she seems to have it all. (Sorry friends this isn’t meant to be offensive :))

On another note I made an amazing dessert last week.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Ice Cream (one serving)
2 bananas
1 T peanut butter
1 t. cocoa powder
Splash of unsweetened almond milk

Cut up bananas and place in freezer. When they are frozen take them out and place in food processor with the other two ingredients. Process the food. Throw in a splash of almond milk. If you want it to be more like frozen yogurt eat right away, if you want it to be harder place in freezer for 10 minutes.

It’s so yummy. Enjoy.

Life Is Good

Good Afternoon!

I never post on the weekends, but I had a great weekend and wanted to share.

Friday was pretty relaxed, I did some homework and food prepping for the weekend. I made spaghetti squash for the first time (delicious! I will share what I did later this week) and I also made my other favorite, broccoli slaw spaghetti.

I was in bed early Friday because Saturday was a BIG day. I woke up at 6:00 am and did my own workout at home. I did sprints on the treadmill (I will share for W.O.W.) and I felt fabulous. I never wake up early and have the power to workout on my own. By 8:10 I was out the door headed to an event for Isagenix.
Isagenix is the protein powder I use and what I use to keep my body energized. I couldn’t say enough good things about it, they have meal replacement shakes (I use for snacks) and other yummy snacks. Isagenix has made me into the athlete I am and has given me the proper energy – with that said, it isn’t cheap. I am not made of money (unfortunately), which has made me think lately if I should keep it up?
Well Saturday was Isa Super Saturday - Minneapolis. I can tell you I WILL continue to use the products; I learned so many new things and I cannot imagine training without these products. Its crazy when you go to health conventions all the gross things you learn about the world.
On a side note last week I had another nutritional Saturday with my trainer and I can’t wait to share something’s from that!

Ok onto today (Sunday!). I was supposed to meet Lauren for breakfast but mother nature decided to put that on hold (we are in a blizzard watch), which was really unfortunate because that meant I had to do my 8 mile run. I was dreading this run because yesterdays eating got a little nasty; pizza, brownies, chips, dips, and alcohol. Ya know, everything you try to avoid the day before you run.

I was nervous, I literally got on the deadtreadmill and stood looking at the start button for a good 2 minutes. Then I pushed it! Today I tried something new, I put a towel over the mileage, time, laps, etc. It was a fabulous idea!
The first 3 miles were great – until last night caught up with me. It’s not rocket science bad (pizza, brownies, etc) + good (a run) = a negative (AKA, running to the bathroom)
So I got off the use the restroom. But I stopped the treadmill and prayed it wouldn’t restart. PTL it didn’t. I jumped back on. Then I pretty much started planning my funeral miles 4-6 they sucked.
Mile 6 I jumped off to use the bathroom again (these were only .30 breaks or so)
Jumped back on and EYE OF THE TIGER came on. I told myself I had TWO miles left, I could run backwards for two miles, I could frickin’ finish these 8 miles strong.
I peaked at my time, I was a little over 74 minutes and had 1/8 of a mile left. I cranked my speed so high and kept telling myself my family was waiting for me at the finish line, I was going to finish in under 75 minutes, dammit.
995 calories and 8 miles in less than 75 minutes.
I am one happy camper.

This is what I stare at. See me in the little mirror
thing?

Meet my BFF. She was neglected the first 10 years of her life… But now we are working on making a relationship work.

Today has been good! Off to some hockey and then babysitting. Life has been too good to me lately….
