Protein Lovin'

If you know me you know I love a good protein shake after an intense workout. I use Isagenix but have used other protein powders in the past.

I use to workout at night and then not have anything to eat until the next morning this is NOT ok. Then I started having Isa Pro protein (100 calories and 18 grams of protein) right after my workouts and before bed. It did wonders! I literally could feel my muscles growing, score.

My favorite is a chocolate protein shake with some raspberries. Taste like dessert.

What are some of your favorite ways to jazz up a protein shake?

**I did some shopping a few weeks back. I loved this jean/shirt thingy when I first saw it. Not sure how much I love it now?**

W.O.W {#7, What I Wear}

This week for W.O.W. I am doing something a little different! I am going to talk about what I like to wear while I workout, because after all clothes are everything in life.

Lets be real. If you know me, you know I shop til’ I drop. I LOVE SHOPPING. Period. Recently I went to Old Navy and gave my workout wardrobe a little face lift. I bought three matching shorts/tops outfits.

Can you tell I was feeling purple?
Above were all before Body Pump. I would never wear these outfits cycling!

When I am shopping for workout clothes it is important to me that it will stay up and not fall below my ‘chub’ (Yes, I have chub and I am not proud of it). I also make sure my tops aren’t too thick.

My favorite place to get workout gear would definitely be Gap, followed by Old Navy and Target.

To me doing laundry every other day doesn’t work, so I have LOTS of workout clothes. I don’t know if it is because I am obsessed with shopping or too lazy to do laundry ha ha ha.

When I run I love pants with draw strings to hold it all up/in. When I am cycling it is a MUST to have biker shorts on or cropped pants because your crotch/legs will rub together. When I am doing body pump/ elliptical/ weights/ abs/ whatever the heck else I do I wear whatever. However, I will say this: I am not as confident wearing shorts because sometimes I feel like A) my crotch is showing and B) I feel like my inner thighs are gross.

Holding my hair back... Lordy! I always put it in a pony tail or bun. Then I complete my look with either a Violet Love or Urbanhalo headband. I swear by Urbanhalo headbands! So worth the cost. They also have great deals on Facebook, make sure to like them!

Tennis shoes.... I have my everyday Nike's that I wear to cycling and body pump. Then I have my Brooks that are only worn for running.

Holding in the boobies... I love my Asics sports bra. Makes me look boob-less but it does the job when I am running. When I am just cycling/elliptical/doing body pump I wear cheaper sports bras from Target.

My Lovin' For Soup

Can we take a minute to reflect on yesterday's blog... My Halloween costume! I didn't even tell y'all what I was... If you couldn't figure it out I was dressed up to be from the show Toddlers and Tiaras. Thought I would share that!

Moving on....

I made it very clear to my family when I went home for Fall Break that I wanted to cook. I, A) wanted yummy home cooked food but I mostly wanted, B) food to bring back to school.

My mama, sister and I did some healthy cooking and I am so excited to share these recipes!

Soups are so yummy to have for Fall/Winter because they are a warm addition to your meal; however, buying soup in a can is sort of scary. Do you know how processed that chicken is in a container of Campbell’s Chicken Noodle Soup? Did you happen to notice that the can of Tomato soup you’re eating has HFCS? Things you wouldn’t expect. The best way to avoid things like this is make your soup from scratch.

Two soups from my kitchen to yours:
Chicken Quinoa-
A favorite of mine! My mom makes the best homemade turkey or chicken soup. (you choose what you want for the meat or make vegetarian)

Turkey/Chicken Quinoa Soup:
Organic Chicken Broth 32 Oz
4 Large Celery’s (Sticks, not whole stalk)
3 Large Carrots
1 Large Onion
2 Cups of Chicken or Turkey
1 Cup of Quinoa
pepper!

I love this onion trick

Cook quinoa and meat separate. Cook vegetables in microwave first. Mix all ingredients on stove. Serve!

I got a little lesson on cooking quinoa. I was doing
it very wrong. My mom was upset ha I just laughed.
Hey, it still turned out

What I love so much about this recipe is everything’s healthy!! There is no feeling bad when you’re eating this folks. We use organic broth, which doesn't have much salt, so people who like their salt might like to add more. You can also tweak this recipe if you want more veggies or turkey/chicken, etc. I always love a warm bowl of soup in the winter with a peanut butter sandwich, dipping it is pretty good too :)  (Side note: I like soggy foods, I love soggy bread! Many people think this is weird... But whatever I accept that people think I am weird.)

White Chicken Chili-
Another favorite. Lets be real here- red chili is amazing but I don’t eat red meats anymore really. This is a different taste but still sort of the same. Similar to the recipe above it is all healthy…. Score.
White Chicken Chili:
1 T Olive Oil
1 Onion (medium)
2 (4oz) Cans of Chopped Green Chilis
2 t. Ground Cumin
2 (15.8 oz) Cans of Northern Beans
1 (14.5 oz) Can of Organic Chicken Broth
1 ½ Cups Chicken Breast Finely Chopped
extras- shredded cheese, sour cream, salsa

In large skillet cook onion in oil for 4 minutes. Add chilies and cumin; cook for additional 2 minutes. Add beans and chicken broth; bringing to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Add chicken. Serve!!

Try these recipes out. Let me know if you like them or if you think they need to have something changed. I would love to hear : )

Weekend Recap -- Halloween Fun

This weekend the Halloween activities began… And boy was it fun!

Friday, I spent the evening making my costume with my friend Allie. She is so crafty and made me look like a loser. It was funny because people asked “oh how long did it take?” Well it depends who you’re asking, Allie 2 hours, me closer to 3 hours. Ha ha. We also had Panera for dinner. Seriously my friends and I are the people keeping Panera in business, we go there 3 or more times a week NOT GOOD (hey, at least I eat healthy when I go there : ) )

The homemade tutu!

Allie and I

Saturday, I cycled and then quickly got ready for the football game. We played Ausburg and we won. It was chilly but as always Sarah and I bundled up/cuddled in her Cobber themed tie blanket. Saturday night we got ready and went out for Halloween. We (Allie and I) got lots of compliments on our matching outfits! Made me feel like maybe it was worth all the hard work.

Kisses to this beautiful girl

More friends
Sunday, oh gosh. The one day I needed to actually get shizzz done I didn’t. We woke up and went to Village Inn for breakfast and I ate enough calories for the whole week. Then I attempted homework. Sarah came over for dinner, we had pizza and tuna, together. Yes, it was together and actually good! We watched Marley and Me – and made it through tear free.

I am SOO ready for this week! I am going to eat well, exercise daily and drink lots of water.

I am looking forward to some fun posts this week: my fav soup recipes, new workout clothes, obsession with protein, and some updates on LIFE.

Make it a great day! Do some healthy for your body. And remember to SMILE.
