My First Cookbook

For most of my life I have waited for dinner to be served, I’ve let my mom prepare the food, I’ve waited for the pizza to come to the front door or for High School lunches I would pack my little brown paper bag with Yoplait strawberry yogurt, a sandwich, a dessert and chips. But hey, I had that Yoplait so that was healthy right?

Nope.

As I have made changes to my life throughout the past year I have started to take over the cooking for myself and a lot of nights my family too.

My mom got my sister Bria and I our first cookbook for Christmas. I was so excited!! I could finally write some healthy recipes and have my own recipes written down, etc. But first I went through our family recipes….

I will be honest; our family has TONS of recipes. Lots that I don’t think we’ve ever used many of these were also unhealthy. Many that used processed ingredients. But I am not going to lie I really enjoy many of the recipes (like the unhealthy ones, my favorite is Raspberry Cream Cheese Jello Dessert. YUM, but not so healthy).

So I spent hours going through our family recipes and writing out the ones I really loved. It was not as fun as I thought it would be.

Hard to see because it's so small but here
I wrote out easy swaps to make for healthier eating.

Chobani substitutes
But what is also cool is my mom is obsessed with keeping old stuff/ things from her grandma. So I now have a few recipes from my great grandma’s and my two grandma’s, written in their handwriting. Right now I think it’s kinda cool, in 20 years I know I will really appreciate it.

Some family recipes that are written in my Grandma's writing.

Have a great weekend! Sunday I am planning on running 8 miles on the treadmill… I will need some prayers! Updates on Monday, OF COURSE :)

W.O.W {#13} + Some Avocado Lovin'

Welcome back to another Workout Wednesday! Have you gotten your workout in today?

This morning I was up at 4:40 for boot camp – the plan was to go to school for a few hours then come home and run; however, this morning boot camp was cardio. BABY THIS ISN’T NO LETS TWIRL AROUND ON THE ELLIPTICAL. This shiz is HARD. So I decided I would do a quick arm workout in between classes instead.

This will take 20-30 minutes, which would include a little stretching!

15 rows (back bent hold bar or hand weights in hand and row back, I used a bar with 30 pounds on it)
15 chest press’s (I sat/laid down on a ball lifting my arms up and bringing them back down. I used 15-pound weights)
15 over head extensions (again I was sitting on the ball bringing my weights above my head then back down to my shoulders. I used 15-pound weights until the last set where I used 10-pound weights)
15 bicep curls in the squat position (sit low, like you’re in a chair. One arm at a time – each arm do 15 curls). --> this WILL burn
REPEAT! (3 times total)

I really wish I had pictures. I will work on some for future posts.

Now to food, because after all that is my favorite part of the day.

Egg Avocado Sandwich
1 egg
1/3 of an avocado
1 slice of Ezekiel bread

Put bread in toaster. Start frying egg. Spread avocado onto bread. Place egg on top. Sprinkle with pepper.

EASY! I am pretty sure a Lama could complete this recipe without failure.

Happy Wednesday!

Swimsuits Are Out

I go to Target on average 3 times a week. It’s bad. I go just to get face wash and come home with four new outfits, makeup, food, tampons, socks, you name it I probably come home with it.

This is no joke. Last week I came home with two new workout tops (on sale for $10 each!) and a pair of crazy blue cropped pants that were on $7.99! I also came home with a new planner and markers. Face wash. And garlic. So random!!

Today I was at Target and I noticed the swimsuits were out… I HATE swimsuit shopping. I always have hated it. But I hate it more NOW than I did when I was a size 16.

Last summer my sister and mom made me buy a bikini, my FIRST ONE EVER. I was so nervous to try it on in front of them let-alone where it in front of people. {SIDE NOTE: go swimsuit shopping first thing in the morning before you eat, you’ll feel better about yourself : )}. So I got one bikini. But my mom saw this other one on our way out that I just ‘had to have’. (my mom is known for chasing me around the store saying “Bailey this is your color!” “This is so you!” “If I get this will you wear it??”). So my first two bikinis were bought. Then I felt like hot shit (even though I secretly felt so insecure) then I went and bought a THIRD bikini…. WHAT.

Well a few Dairy Queen blizzards, a few pizzas and a few missed workouts later they are sitting in my drawer now. They haven’t been touched since August. I hope to utilize them in February when I go to California, heck I hope to feel confident enough to wear them this summer.

But I also want to find a stylish one piece. Because for some reason I think tankinis aren’t going to cut it anymore. I found this adorable one at Target but then when I tried it on it’s like you have to be a size zero with Abs because it’s see through. UGH.

Not attractive at all . ON ME. Made me sad. BUT: I don't need
to be in a swimsuit until spring break, so I have a little time.
I mean lets be real, the 6 pack of ABs I ordered won't be here in
time but maybe the fat will come off of the belly area a little. :)

Seriously the day guys understand swimsuit shopping will be the day pigs fly.

RANT OFFICALLY OVER. I am trying to love my body because after all every choice I make daily affects not only my insides but my outsides too.
