Duathlon Fun And My Upcoming Weeks

Today Catherine and I raced in our first duathlon. It will definitely not be my last! It was so much fun. This race had a great atmosphere, awesome music, sweet people {all women}, and oh my goodness the after party was the bomb. We got to do this race because a friend of mine got sick and her friend got injured. It was totally last minute!

Pre-race!
Post-race!

Now onto some more exciting news... I am 90% sure I will be working at a gym this summer leading a kid boot camp, which is awesome! But that also means I have to become a certified personal trainer and complete CPR in the next 3.5 weeks. Not to mention next week I will be in Denver on vacation. Enjoying my time with my family and studying. I'm trying to remain positive and think only good thoughts.
Not going to lie, I am scared that it is too much to do in such a short period of time. It's recommended to take about 10 weeks. So I will for sure need to apply myself and work my butt off. I also have summer school that is only one month {for this particular class} so I will have lots to do in May/June.
I decided that I am going to {try} take a break from blogging. I love blogging but I spend a lot of time on my blog and other people's blogs. After the middle of June I should be back in full swing again. I promise I will have some exciting recipes, pictures and great workout ideas from all of my studying.

Quick Check In

HELLLO FRIDAAAYYY.
I am super excited for this weekend because I am doing my first ever duathlon. The weather looks beautiful!

If you have never heard of a duathlon that is ok, I am not judging. Most people are like what is that?
It is a run, bike, run.
Everyone duahtlon is a little different length. I am doing the ESprit De She Duahtlon, which is a 2 mile run, 12 mile bike, 2 mile run.
What I like about this is there is no swim; however, after the Tri I thought the swim was the easiest. So as long as the wind stays away and we run on pavement I think it should be ok.
I am doing this race with Catherine and it is VERY last minute. Like she found out about 20 minutes ago she is doing it and I found out at the beginning of the week that I was for sure doing it… Someone I know had a friend break an ankle so I got her bib. Then my friend got super sick this week so now she is unable to race! I am sad I can not race with Steph because I babysit for her. She is in rocking shape and in her 40’s. I was actually nervous to bike with her because she is REALLY fast. I guess this just means her and I will have to sign up for a race in the near future :)
More to come Sunday or Monday when we are finished :)

I got some vegetable plants Monday. I hope to get some fresh veggies on them! Anddd the best thing is they are still going strong after 5 days, meaning I haven’t killed them yet. #winning

Below are some funnies from the week. Have a great weekend!

W.O.W. {#26}

Happy Hump Day!

This past Saturday I kicked my own butt in the gym. This does not happen often so when it does I feel like a rock star al day long.

Usually when I am planning my workouts I think about what I want to do – I try to throw in a little cardio and then I pick what muscles I want to work. Some people stick to back, chest, arms, legs, etc. I have not gotten there yet so I either chose upper or lower body. Saturday I chose UPPER body.

I knew I wanted to do sprints for my cardio so then all I had to think of is what upper body workouts I wanted to do. I thought long and hard (for about 30 seconds) then I wrote down my plan. I literally bring this notebook into the workout room so I know exactly what I am going to do.

So you can read it better this is what I did:
10 minutes of sprints – 9 speed 30 seconds on 15 seconds off. (I just put my legs on the side of the treadmill)
10 bicep curls
10 bench presses
10 lat pull downs
10 shoulder presses
10 dips
*Repeat arm movements 2 additional times
** I used 2 15-pound dumbbells.
10 minutes of sprints – 9 speed 30 seconds on 15 seconds off
Pushup set… 1 pushup, 2 pushups, 3 pushups…10 pushups.
10 dips
1-minute plank
30 second left side plank
1-minute plank
30-second right side plank
*Do not rest in between planks

I finished this workout in 39 minutes. I was literally going to puke on the treadmill. My arms were sore until Tuesday… Which goes to show you do not need to work out for 2 hours in order to get a good workout in. Or I am just weak. But either way try this workout and let me know what you think!

And what is my motivation this week? This picture. This was June 2012. My arms and my chubby little face make me want to go on a 10 mile run.

Weekend Fun.

Finally school is D.O.N.E.
Until next Monday that is.
Booo.

Hopefully summer school will be interesting and fun.
But who am I kidding? It is summer school. Summer is a time for summer activities, not school.

I have so many opportunities coming my way recently and it is overwhelming.
I cannot even seem to keep up with laundry, cleaning my car, keeping my bed made or some days I question if I have time for a quick shower. But seriously if you have not ever tried dried shampoo you are missing out.

For the summer I knew I wanted to do some summer classes because I do not want to be in school for the next seven years. Because I changed schools, possibly added a major and switched my plans I am assuming I will not graduate in spring of 2016, which devastates me. I am all about this get out of college, get a big girl job, get a dog, get a house life. But I doubt that will all happen. I mean as much as I want a big girl job that means I have big girl bills, a mortgage, car payments, loans, payments for my dog that I will have, I mean I will have to pay for everything. Some days I want that and others I am scared for that. The days a dread being a big girl I have this plan to live with my parents until I’m forty. I know they would LOVE that. Ha!!

But back to this summer... My plans initially were to do a few summer classes and start working towards becoming a Certified Personal Trainer. But then I got asked to work at my old HS job, which is a fitness studio. They needed a temporary fill in for the front desk. I wanted to say yes so bad but I knew it would throw me overboard (the time and commitment). I was also asked to nanny a couple days a week, which I am still pondering (I need some sort of income). Then the greatest opportunity came at me! The gym I currently do boot camp at asked if I would want to help with a kid/mom fitness class two days a week.
But because my name is Bailey McKenzie Johnson and I cannot make a decision for the life of me therefore I still do not know my plans.

Which brings me stress. Sometimes I look around at other people and I am like do they not have stress in their life? They make life look like a pretty sunny day chillin’ on a hammock and then there is my life that is like a first time surfer trying to get up that face plants 8 times.

I am torn.

But on the bright side this past weekend was Mother’s Day. We pulled off a GREAT surprise for my lovely Mama. My dad took her to dinner then my sister and I showed up with flowers, Wild hockey tickets and a Wild jersey. Within 10 minutes we were on our way to the big game! She was SOO excited. I think we covered the next 5 Mother’s Days :)

Sunday we woke up and went for a family bike ride. Then we had brunch with my dad’s family. All in all life is good just busy. But when is it not?

My family!

I think I found my summer go to outfit. I am in love! The chevron skirt is from JCPs. Such a fun outfit and so comfy!

Eggs In The Oven

Every time I need to boil eggs for the week I call my mom and the conversation goes something like this:
“Hey mom I am trying to make eggs, is it 30 minutes in boiling water? Boil the water then sit for 30 minutes? Put the eggs in when the water is still cold? How long do they sit in there? I am confused mom."
Then she tells me. I would tell you what she tells me, but I honestly cannot remember. (I am pretty sure I have short-term memory loss ;))

The other weekend when I wanted to make eggs I tried the oven method.

EASY!

Set oven to 325 degrees.
Place eggs in muffin tin.
Cook 30 minutes for large eggs or 32 for X Large eggs.
Put eggs in an ice bath for 10 minutes.
Peel eggs when you are ready to eat.

It did work well to do it this way; however, I will say when you boil your eggs in the water they seem to peel a lot more nicely. I also buy eggs straight from a farmer and I have heard fresh eggs are terribly hard to peel. Honestly sometimes I feel like I waste half the egg! But they are so cheap from the farmer I am not worried.
